Stopping Graffiti in Oakley

About 2 years ago the City of Oakley instituted an aggressive policy of having graffiti removed within 24 hours after it being reported. The City also informed residents through press releases, the Oakleaf (Oakley’s quarterly mailer) and the City website to call in graffiti as soon as they see it and to let staff know of any groups willing to volunteer to remove graffiti. The City immediately received more reports and City staff and volunteers removed graffiti all over town and were consistent in getting it removed quickly. This consistent effort has led to a dramatic decrease in graffiti and a group that called the other day volunteering to remove graffiti was refocused on another project because City staff couldn’t find any graffiti in the City!  As a community we need to continue to be vigilant in these efforts to fight graffiti and the effort will continue to pay off. If you see graffiti call the main City number (625-7000), or directly to Code Enforcement (625-7031).
