Saturday was a busy day for the Friends of Oakley. Friday a crew of elves picked up over 2000 pounds of canned food from the Contra Costa Food Bank and delivered them to the O’Hara Park Gym. Toys that had been stored and wrapped at Oakley Elementary were shipped over to O’Hara Park courtesy of a group of elves from the Oakley Union Elementary School District (OUESD). With help from leadership from Freedom High they started box preparation, sorting, and staging for the big sort and box day on Saturday.
Arriving early Saturday morning the Friends of Oakley continued what had started the previous day. With help from: Freedom High Leadership, Delta Diablo 4H, New Lifeline Ministries, teachers from OUESD and volunteers from the community the work for Sunday’s Christmas Basket give away was completed. Numbered boxes were stuffed with canned goods and the other non-perishable food items, toys for the children were coupled with the appropriate numbered box and spread across the gym floor. Although the pictures may look a little chaotic the days work was done in a very structured manner. Additional food was provided during the day by the Brentwood Community Chest allowing for an additional 50 baskets to be set up for seniors at the Summer Creek facility in Oakley.
Thank you to all those who participated. A community coming together to provide assistance for those in need of a little help during this Christmas Holiday.
