It’s a new name for the organization formally known as the Antioch Military Families & Friends. In an email from Josie Monaghan she states:
Hello and welcome to East County Military Families & Friends!!
Thats our new name. I have been thinking about the name change for about a year now, we have many volunteers and military families through out East County, from Pittsburg to Discovery Bay. We have received positive feed back already.
I’m glad you asked! We recently met with a core group to talk about stepping up from a grass roots level to an organization with a 501c3 status, with a Board of Directors. We are currently sponsored by: Art’s and Cultural Foundation of Antioch, they are our fiscal sponsors which means, your donations are tax deductible. We will be meeting again to elect the Directors on April 27th 7:30pm at Black Bear’s Diner on Main Street in Oakley. If you would like to be considered for a seat or committee chair for special projects, events, please email me and I will put your name on the list. The City of Oakley will honor a returning Soldier: Spc, Jeffery Wymer with a Proclamation at City Hall on April 27th at 6:30PM, so we will meet after this for our election of board members.
We have VERY BIG PLANS in the works for services and resources for our returning Veterans and their families. When I started this in 2005, I was hoping that this would be over soon so I didn’t want to think about it LONG TERM, but here we are 5 years later and we are still sending our Troops to war. Besides, we need every penny we get to send support and pay for postage. We are currently in need of a building or vacant house that someone is willing to donate or for a small fee to use as we begin our Peer to Peer support. We will be applying for grant money to help with this project so if you know of lawyers who do pro bono work, or grant writers please direct them to me please!
