Take a Walk on the Delta

If you have a chance this weekend head on out to Big Break Regional Shoreline and walk the Delta. Wednesday afternoon the East Bay Regional Park District showcased the Delta Discovery, an outdoor plaza with includes an interactive, three dimensional map of the Delta. The plaza also includes picnic and meadow sites, a shaded amphitheater, kayak launch location, and covered outdoor use areas for programs highlighting the Delta, its ecosystems and wildlife.

Created to scale, the map is a 35 by 50 foot representation of the Delta. The presentation gives you a bird’s eye view of the Delta, allowing you to visualize where this important waterway is located within the State. Aerial photos of a number cities located throughout the Delta have been laid down on the map, so you can walk from Sacramento to Stockton, hop over to Lodi and then on to Oakley. Or you can stand atop Mt Diablo and follow of the flow of Marsh Creek from the mountain top to where it merges with the Delta. Overall its an impressive and unique display.
