Big Break Visitor Center

After over 20 years of discussions and planning and nearly $15 million in expenditures it’s nearly ready.  The Board of Directors for the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) held their monthly board meeting at Big Break Regional Shoreline in the nearly completed Big Break Visitor Center at the Delta (a.k.a. Delta Science Center). This is the first visitor center built by the park district in over 30 years. I got a preview of coming attractions. The 5,000 square foot visitor center building has three rooms: a welcome reception area, an exhibit room with the ability for group gatherings (such as classroom or lecture), and a science lab with work stations for field studies (microscopes, work tables, sinks, etc.)

The district is anticipating a September grand open and will be working with the City of Oakley’s recreation staff for this event.
