As a firefighter you know that there are many life safety hazards that you may be faced with during the performance of your duties. You know that by taking the job, you could be faced with any one of them and that it may put your life at risk as you attempt to mitigate the situation. How often you take these risks depends on the department you work for, the frequency of calls, or the hazards in your jurisdiction. With all of this in mind, the loss of 19 firefighters on one incident is never anticipated by any organization.
