BNSF has informed us that the work planned for these dates on the bridge at
Bridgehead Road will not take place until January. The City Council had approved a
temporary street closure for November, so it will be brought back as a new proposal, when
received, to allow BNSF to temporarily close the road for the project.
BNSF Railroad is in the process of upgrading their facilities in Oakley and part of the project is to add a second set of tracks from east of the Vintage Parkway overcrossing to the City limits line west of Bridgehead Road. Part of this project requires widening the railroad bridge where it crosses over Bridgehead Road.
City staff has been contacted by representatives of Shimmick Construction regarding the bridge widening and staff has received an application for a Road Closure Permit. The Road Closure Permit application requests complete closure of Bridgehead Road during the hours from 6:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. between November 3, 2013 and November 16,2013. No weekend work is being requested and both lanes of Bridgehead Road would be opened to traffic during non-work hours.
A detour plan was submitted with the Road Closure Permit application which shows north bound traffic being diverted west to Viera Avenue in Antioch then east along Wilbur Avenue back to Bridgehead Road. South bound traffic would be diverted west along Wilbur Avenue to Viera Avenue then east along East 18th Street to Bridgehead and Neroly Roads.
The detour plan also shows temporary signage to be in place during construction with notes stating there will be message boards in place two weeks in advance alerting drivers of the detour and that the detour signs will be covered or removed when not in use.
