Planning a trip out of the country? Be advised that passports are required for air, land,
and sea travel outside of the United States.
The State Department now offers a passport card ‐ a wallet‐size card that can be used
only for land and sea travel between the United States and Canada, Mexico, the
Caribbean, and Bermuda. The card is a less expensive, smaller, more convenient
alternative to the passport book for those who travel frequently to these destinations by
land or by sea. A passport book is required for air travel.
As a U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Facility, the City of Oakley offers
convenient, one‐stop service for your passport needs including photos. Passport
application processing hours are between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday through
Friday, at Oakley City Hall located at 3231 Main Street, except the first and third Friday
of each month when City Hall is closed. Appointments are required; contact the
receptionist at (925) 625‐7000 to make an appointment or to obtain general information.
City Hall will also be closed during the holidays November 11, 28, 29 and December 20‐
Customers submitting routine applications should receive their passports within six
weeks if all documentation is complete. Expedited service, which requires an
additional fee, assures receipt of a passport within three weeks. If you are traveling
within 14 days and require a passport, you may need to go to the San Francisco
