First, there was the post-Thanksgiving sales spectacle Black Friday and then the online version, Cyber Monday. Now, charitable groups have started a new holiday tradition — it’s called Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. Then tell everyone you can about how you are giving.
Giving Tuesday is the brainchild of the 92nd Street Y, a nonprofit cultural and community center in New York and began on November 27, 2012. The thought behind it was: to get people excited about giving in the same way they might get excited about buying a big-screen TV at a bargain price.
Giving is defined as the intentional transfer of ‘something’ to ‘someone’. So in the spirit of giving, you’re invited you to join in the action on “Giving Tuesday,” which lands on December 1.
