Kirker Pass Road Truck Lanes –Northbound

At their meeting on Tuesday, February 26, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors awarded a $14,153,763 contract to Granite Rock Company to construct the Kirker Pass Road Northbound Truck Climbing Lane project. Earlier in the month the Contra Costa Transportation Authority appropriated, at the request of the county, $4,174,381 in Measure J funds for the construction of the project. Construction is expected to begin this summer.

The mountainous terrain along Kirker Pass Road with sections greater than 8% grades contribute to significant congestion during peak hours. The Kirker Pass Road northbound Truck Climbing Lane project will construct a truck climbing lane in the northbound direction along Kirker Pass Road between Clearbrook Drive in the City of Concord and Hess Road in unincorporated County. The truck climbing lane will not only reduce congestion, but will also improve safety along the project area.
